Botanicula is a really cute point-and-click-adventure by Amanita Design from 2012. In The last days I had finally the pleasure to play the game. And even more like Amanitas Marchinarium I suggest to play the game with your kids (+8 years) if you are looking for a good game you can experience together. The puzzles and quests are between easy and hard so it is a good mixture. The unique graphics is what i like most about this game. Moreover are the sounds and music very sweet. Another good point about this game is the storyline about a group of little plant seeds who want to save the last seed of their home tree. Please have a safe trip around the world of Mr. Lantern, Mr. Twig, Mr. Poppy Head, Mr. Feather and Mrs. Mushroom.
How often did you wish to have your own little robot? Ten thousand times if you asked me. He would help you, laugh with you and you would have some crazy adventures with him. I would prepare a bowl with oil and magnets in the kitchen for him.
But there are some robots already doing this with you. They are very funny and you can have an adventure with them at least until the film ends. Over the time a lot of them where invented for the film and cartoon industry. Sure, there are the evil and dangerous robots, too. Some of them are also admirable like the androids from Terminator and Blade Runner. But they didn’t catch my heart as much as the following ones.
The Robots already invaded my place (mostly from: http://www.generalrobots.de/shop_content.php/coID/1)
I think the first robot I was falling in love with was R2-D2 from Star Wars. He is so strong willed, makes adorable noises, is the best mechanic and complies with the cuteness schema. He really is one of my favourite Star Wars Characters.
Another robot from outer space is the transformer Bumblebee. He makes a lot of jokes through his radio communication because he has a damaged vocal processor. This was a great idea and it makes him very special. Moreover you could drive with him and he is a loyal friend.
If we are speaking of cuteness schema we must not leave out Number 5 (Short Circuit/ ger.: Nummer 5 lebt). The film and the sequel give such a good example for the cute loveable robot in it. Number 5 was a military robot but after a lightning hit him he is fighting for his live as a thinking, emotional being. He really moved me to tears but I’m a bit jealous of his reading speed. He is the intellectual nerd under the robots and is searching for input all the time.
There is another robot nerd you have to be fond of: Marvin the Paranoid Android (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy). He is nowhere near to the friendly open minded Number 5 but that’s the point. For Marvin the world is like it would always be a rainy early Monday morning when you are out of coffee and your car or bike is broken. He is depressed all the time because of his planet sized intellect, has no self esteem and nags all the time about his sad existence. But Marvin is so full of the British black humour of Douglas Adams that you have to think he is funny, more often than you have pity with him.
In cartoon universe there are tons of robots to find. For me the always swearing lazy Bender (Futurama) is one of my favourites. He is more like a real human, but Matt Groening succeeds to show a lot of robot stereotypes in Futurama and Bender is Fry’s and our guide through his world. The second cartoon robot I love is the crazy and cute G.I.R. (Invader Zim). Marvin and G.I.R. in one room and you would have a real robot rumble. He is made of scrap and so he is a little broken and freakish. But G.I.R. is too insane to describe him well. I recommend the series to you to see it with your own eyes.
There are many more robots I like, but to find an end, here is the last and wonderful Wall-e. His design is a little similar to Number 5. So he is one of the cutest little robo-friends you can think of. The film itself is great and the other funny robots on the space-ship make a charming robot-family I adore. The pure, lonesome, forgotten Wall-e is searching for friends, family and love. He wants to end his despairing loneliness and I think everyone can understand this so much. That’s the reason for Wall-e’s success in warming our hearts.
